Celebrating the Life of a Virtuous Woman The Word of God in Proverbs 31: 10 -31 gives the biblical definition of a virtuous woman. It describes the life of Lois Cornelius Harris in vivid detail. Lois was born on April 11, 1935 to Arlee and Vastoria Greenway. Her parents taught her and her 4 siblings many skills which Lois utilized throughout her life. She also thrived academically. Lois would often remind family and friends that she was one of two students in her class who consistently received high marks in mathematics throughout their academic careers. Lois graduated from Thornton High School in 1953 and entered adulthood well equipped with book knowledge and trade skills. Alvin, her husband of over sixty years, knew she was a diamond when he met her. Lois spent money wisely – She shopped around for the best priced items to adorn her home. She was an excellent cook who made meals that could rival any renown chef. At times, the fruits and vegetables she used to prepare her meals came from her own garden. She increased her family’s wealth by applying all that she learned. She was very mindful of her household and intentionally kept her husband and their only child, Jocelyn Renee most commonly known as “Joyce”, busy and productive doing the work of the Kingdom. Alvin, Lois and Joyce were each active in their church in various capacities. Lois’ daughter Joyce, her grandchildren, Kenya and Gregory, and five great-grandchildren Ebony, Bryan, Gabriel, Jason and Zachery have tremendous respect for her and revere her as blessed. They each believe emphatically that, “while many women have done wonderful things, ‘mama’ outclassed them all (v. 29, MSG)”. Lois is admired and praised by many others. Lois preceded in death two sisters, Frankie White and Iris Ingraham, many nieces and nephews, several cousins and a host of friends who live across the nation. None has held back their testaments of “love” for Lois as they have learned of her passing. She readily opened her heart and her home to friends and family. Let her works bring her praise at Heaven’s gates. “Well done God’s good and faithful servant. (Matthew 25:21)”.
