September 18, 1943 - October 6, 2021
John Westley Ware, 78, died peacefully, on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. John was born September 18, 1943 in Hollis, OK to the late J.W. and Norma Orr Ware. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the ammunition ship, USS Pyro, and as reconnaissance in Viet Nam. His travels after his Navy service took him to Tampa, Florida, where he gave his life to God and boldly shared Jesus on street corners, and anywhere he could minister to others. On February 13, 1978, John married Kathleen Taylor. He served as lay minister and pastor's assistant, taught Sunday school, and enjoyed witnessing in chatrooms. He was employed by TCI-J as an IT Specialist for 19 years. In his retirement, John enjoyed building computers, woodworking, and especially, making musical instruments. After hearing David Lindsey and Russell Cook play the hammered dulcimer, John promptly began designing and building dulcimers, and other instruments, in his woodshop. His generosity abounded when he gifted many of his instruments for prizes at music festivals including Harps, Hammers and Friends, the Lone Star State Dulcimer Festival, and his favorite; the Wintercreek Reunions held annually at David Lindsey/s workshop and homestead in Bennington, Oklahoma, where John could always be found with a cup of coffee and a good conversation going with whomever he was with. John built his own CNC machine and enjoyed it for many years. He was a genius and studied anything and everything that interested him. His knowledge was a gift he freely gave to others. John was a generous and loyal man. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the dulcimer community. The family wishes to thank all those who prayed for John and the caring staff at Baylor Scott & White Hospital. John was predeceased by his son, John David Ware, and is survived by his wife of 43 years: Kathy; son: James Ware and wife Elizabeth; daughters: Linda Garrett and husband Weldon; Rachel Hightower and husband Terran; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers: W. Wayne Ware and David Jamail, sister Diane Jamail, along with friends and extended family too numerous to mention. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Red River Valley Dulcimer Club, 654 Acorn Lane, Bennington, OK 74723, or Westworth Village Baptist Temple, 206 Koldin Lane, Fort Worth, TX 76114.
