George Griffith Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George Griffith Jr., age 91, of Dallas, TX, went home to be with his Lord on 20 January. George Griffith was born and raised in Athens, GA. Our father was a hard-working man. After completing 8th grade, he started working in the farm with his mother and father, from there he went on to making ice cream at the University of Georgia, then to honorably serve in the United States Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal and he also served in the Korean War. After retiring from the Army he settled in Dallas, TX where he worked for 35 years as a very dependable delivery truck driver for Southwest Sanitary Co. Even after he retired he continued to work part-time and farm, sharing his vegetables with neighbors, family, and friends. “Uncle Jun” as he was affectionately known by his nephews, never met a stranger. He had a friendly smile, wave, and warm, positive welcome for all. Throughout his life, he lovingly cared for many dogs and cats. George proudly served as a deacon at New Birth Baptist Church. George Griffith was preceded in death by his father George Griffith Sr., his mother Lena Dawdy Muckle Griffith, and his brothers and sisters: James, Bob, Benton, Ed, Annie, Milton, Mozel, Willie, Harry, and Elmon; and his first wife Annie Ruth Marable. He leaves to cherish his memories his second wife, Lucille Griffith Thomas, four children Deloris Smith, Victor (Sirtrenia), Dennis (Elisase), and Michelle, and seven grandchildren (Larry, Miranda, Tiffany, Whitney, Kameryn, Amuria, and Stevie), 14 great-grand kids, and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or SPCA of Texas. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, February 10th at Guardian Funeral Home, 5704 James Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76134. Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, February 11th at New Birth Missionary Church, 444 W Ledbetter Dr., Dallas, TX 75224 with the Graveside Service to follow at 2 PM in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
