June 20, 1939 - July 25, 2020
David Mark Hernandez, Beloved Father, Brother, Uncle, and Friend passed away on July 25, 2020 in Cleburne, Texas. The son of Louis and Cynthia Hernandez, David was born in Hilsboro TX, June 20, 1939. He was the baby of six children. He was preceded on his journey to Heaven by his beloved wife, Annie Arlene Hernandez, his daughter Cheryl Reyes, mom and dad Cynthia and Louis, 2 sisters, Faye Martin and Novella Pruitt, and brother Robert Hernandez. David grew up in Hillsboro, TX and was a talented multi-sport athlete in Baseball, Football, and Track. His teammates nicknamed him the “field mouse” for his prowess on the field. His team was the 1955 AA State Finalist Football Team and he was inducted into the Hillsboro High School Athletic Hall of Fame. David was also an excellent craftsman and received a Who's Who National Honor for Woodworking and drafting. This natural gift would eventually be his life's work and legacy. Following high school, David left Hillsboro, TX to serve in the United States Army. David settled his family in Magnolia, TX and used his talent to build a successful Custom Cabinet business. He was known for the meticulous and beautiful detail in his work. He didn't know how to be idle and always had a plan for his next endeavor. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed time with his family, traveling, or hunting. He loved dancing with his wife, Annie, whom he absolutely adored. David was a wonderful Uncle and mentor to his nieces and nephews who looked up to him. He was a major presence in his nephews lives as they grew into young men, and he took on the role of teaching them how to fish, camp, hunt, and build. He found great joy in testing out his latest Halloween mask on his great-nieces when they came to visit and was generous with hugs and junk food to make up for it. When he came to town to visit, it did not matter what time of night he arrived, everyone would get out of bed, wake the kids up, and gather for an all night visit with him. He was a master story-teller and often had something up his sleeve to keep everyone entertained. He lead a festive life, fiercely loved his family, and thoroughly enjoyed large family gatherings. There was no greater host and everything he did for his family was on a grand scale. His idea of a great family visit was always exciting and sometimes involved work: finding a shovel, digging a hole, hunting something down to roast over a fire, and feeding everyone. He had many wonderful traits, but he defined one in particular, generosity. David was larger than life and will be missed by all whose lives he touched with his generous spirit and love. He is survived by his two loving sisters, Cynthia Martin of Burleson, TX and Josephine Markwardt, of Burleson, TX; his three children, David Mark Hernandez and wife Whitney of Duncan, Oklahoma, Heather Hernandez of Duncan, Oklahoma, and David Allen, and wife Melisa of Sellersburg, Indiana; his grandchildren, Harlee Hernandez, Hayden Hernandez, Rudy Reyes, Cherina Reyes, Jared Allen, Abigail Allen, Madison Allen, and Zachary Allen.
